A new smart paint developed by Dr Rachel Armstrong of University College London, is said to be the latest development in building carbon zero homes. The smart paint has been designed to absorb harmful carbon emissions.

green-paintThe smart paint works by reacting with carbon dioxide in the atmosphere to produce calcium carbonate – the main constituent of limestone – and alcohol. The resulting “biolime” then provides extra strength and insulation as well as soaking up carbon emissions.

How much CO2 could be removed from the atmosphere in this way has not yet been tested – so we will have to wait to see if this really is the smart paint of the future, watch this space.
