“This small courtyard was covered in concrete and overpowered by a tall building behind. The effect was claustrophobic. The paving was matched with the black slate in the new kitchen to make the garden feel like an extension to the internal space. As a focal point, lined up with the kitchen door, a flat panel stainless steel water feature is washed with light at night, as are the black bamboos set in a moss like planting. A wooden seat along the sides doubles up as a storage seat.”
