Bathroom heating

Warming toes and towels with bathroom heating Monday, August 20, 2007
Seeing as we spend a great deal of time in our bathrooms naked, it's important to keep the space warm. So what are the options for bathroom heating?

Bathroom heating - towel radiators

Towel radiators in the bathroom are a good option for bathroom heating - warming your bathroom in style. They are easily linked to the central heating or hot water system, are maintenance free and come in a huge range of styles and heat outputs.

Towel radiators will add a touch of warmth and luxury to your bathroom but must be planned in, whether they are electric or connected to your water system.

If you are looking to rely on bathroom heating from just a towel radiator you will need a large ladder towel radiator, otherwise you can substitute with a large wall radiator.

What size towel radiator?

In order to decide what heat output your towel radiator needs to have; you need to calculate the radiator's BTU requirements.

BTU is short for British Thermal Unit, the British standard unit of energy. One BTU is equal to the amount of heat required to raise the temperature of one pound of liquid water by 1 degree Fahrenheit at its maximum density, which occurs at a temperature of 39.1 degrees Fahrenheit.

All towel rails will display these details and you can use our BTU calculator, to calculate the towel radiators BTU requirements.

Bathroom heating - under tile

Don't want to tread on cold tiles? Then you can install under tile heating. If you are building a new home, you can opt for bathroom heating via a wet system which involves piping hot water beneath the floor. However, simple under tile electric tile heating systems are also available where an ultra-thin electric floor heating system is installed under tile.

If you are installing under tile heating for your bathroom heating then ensure you contact a competent Part P electrician registered under a Part P scheme.

Getting your bathroom heating plan right will mean hot toes and towels in the morning - I can't wait!
