We checked out the 100% Design event in London last week where hundreds of designers roll out new concepts in home-living from windows to the latest designs in lighting. Greenpeace unveiled it's "Light Garden" and a small step we can all take to help climate change - using energy efficient light bulbs. The good news is that there are now dimmable Low energy light bulbs - so there is no excuse not to use them!
Old fashioned light bulbs
Incandescent bulbs came on the market 100 years ago - they waste 95% of the energy they use as they heat up and often burn out after just 12 months. The wasted energy generates C02 emissions which contribute towards climate change.
Low energy light bulbs
Low energy light bulbs have been available for about 30 years, use less than a fifth of the energy and last much longer. They are easy to use and cut greenhouse gas emissions by at least 60%.

Each of the Light Garden's dimmable low energy light bulbs can save 700kg of C02 over its lifetime of 16,000 hours. It will also save more than £100 in electricity bills.
If low energy light bulbs were used throughout the UK, they would reduce the amount of CO2 by around 2.3 million tonnes per year. Greenpeace is calling on all designers, architects and retailers to get rid of old fashioned, energy wasting light bulbs now!

Compact Fluorescent Lamps (CFLs) can be versatile, stylish and even beautiful. Greenpeace have been working with designer Jason Bruges on an installation using fully dimmable CFLs, compact fluorescent bulbs.
